MBA Intern Program

MBA Intern ProgramThe MBA Intern Program is designed to provide support for section programs and initiatives by providing legal research for publications, articles and legislative positions; communicating with section members on special projects; and working as a liaison between the Section Council and MBA staff. Also, the interns attend the monthly Section Council meetings.

The internships are open to second- and third-year law students and the program begins in October and runs through May of the following year. Interns maintain a schedule of 10 hours per week at the MBA offices in Boston and/or Springfield, which serves the needs of western Massachusetts members.

In the past, interns have researched issues such as privacy relating to court records, drafted articles for Section Review, filed documents at the Statehouse, cite checked law review articles, tracked and analyzed legislation before the Massachusetts General Court, produced surveys and helped promote and develop educational programs and seminars.

Beginning in October, Section Council chairs meet with interns to discuss plans and goals for the section. Section Council chairs should take an active role in providing work for the interns assigned to their sections as well as encouraging other members of the council to do so. In addition, Section Council members should take advantage of the intern Web page on the MBA site at www.MassBar.org as a means of assigning work.

The Intern Program is intended to be mutually beneficial for both the section councils and the interns. While each Section Council receives a helping hand, the intern gains exposure to the statewide legal community.
