MBA commends Governor’s Council confirmation of Roderick Ireland as the next Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice
The Massachusetts Bar Association applauds the Governor's
Council for deciding to confirm Supreme Judicial Court Associate
Justice Roderick Ireland to serve as the next Supreme Judicial
Court Chief Justice. Ireland was nominated by Gov. Deval Patrick in
November.
"Justice Ireland is a remarkably talented jurist with
demonstrated leadership abilities. His appointment and work ahead
will help restore confidence in the judicial branch as it faces the
challenges related to court funding and probation," MBA President
Denise Squillante said.
According to Squillante, the MBA has long enjoyed Justice
Ireland's partnership in its community programs aimed to educate
youth and inspire the next generation of legal professionals.
Ireland has served as presiding judge of the MBA's annual Mock
Trial Championship and longtime advocate of the SJC's Worcester and
Boston Judicial Youth Corps program. He was honored for judicial
excellence in 2001 by the MBA and Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly and
with the MBA's Public Service Award in 2005. In addition, he
received the Great Friend of Justice Award in 2008 from the
Massachusetts Bar Foundation, the philanthropic partner of the
MBA.
Incorporated in 1911, the
Massachusetts Bar Association is a non-profit organization that
serves the legal profession and
the public by promoting the administration of justice, legal
education, professional excellence and respect for the law.
The
MBA represents a diverse group of attorneys, judges and legal
professionals across the commonwealth.
