History
The Massachusetts Bar Association held its first annual meeting on Dec. 17, 1910 - one year after it was first organized - in the American House in Boston with more than 600 attendees. The MBA, which was incorporated in 1911, was one of the first associations to embrace gender and racial diversity.
Mission
The Massachusetts Bar Association is a volunteer organization of lawyers representing the legal profession, serving lawyers, the justice system, and the public. It provides professional support and education to members, and advocacy on behalf of lawyers, legal institutions and the public.
Governance
The Massachusetts Bar Association is comprised of a House of Delegates that consists of a president, president-elect, two vice presidents, treasurer, secretary, the two most immediate, living past presidents, 18 regional delegates, seven at-large delegates, chairs of the 16 section councils and others.
