As the only Trial Court not scattered around the
commonwealth, the Land Court may seem a bit mysterious to practitioners who
aren’t already familiar with it. The Massachusetts Bar Association believes it
is useful for lawyers to have a basic understanding of the court and its
jurisdiction before encountering some of the procedures and practices that are
unique to this little-known division of the Trial Court Department.
Chief Justice Karyn Scheier and Recorder Deborah Patterson will give an
overview of the basic facts one should know about the Land Court and reveal how
friendly and navigable it can be.
