Re: Tenant Environmental Request for Landlord

Dear Landlord,

The purpose of this letter is to address this building’s impact on the environment. We have joined the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Lawyers Eco-Challenge, a statewide campaign committed to improving the environment. It is our request that steps be taken to reduce this building’s environmental footprint given the increase and magnitude of global warming and the resulting ecological, health, economic and social ramifications.

We would like to assist you in improving this building’s efficiencies and sustainable practices. As our landlord, you have the ability to help make a real and measurable difference in mitigating climate change. We hope you join us in our efforts and commit to implementing practices that will provide benefits to you financially and for the environment. We respectfully request you assess the following areas:

  • Energy and Water Conservation
  • Recycling
  • Environmentally Conscious Purchases

We encourage you to read the attached MBA Green Guidelines and implement thoses sustainable practices you deem appropriate that follow. To the extent that you have already implemented some of these practices, I very much appreciate your efforts. (Tenants, be sure to specify anything particular to their building that should be commended. For example, if a landlord had installed a green roof or a gray watering system, that would be important to acknowledge.)

Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to hearing from you.

Warm regards,

Tenant
