Luncheon
roundtable (lunch provided)
Returning to any
profession after a career break is a difficult feat and can be particularly
daunting in the legal profession. Attorneys seeking to reenter practice, whether
after exploring another career or after time home raising children, often find
that internal and external factors can challenge, if not impede, their decision
to return to work. After a career hiatus, employers may question an attorney’s
knowledge and ability to perform, perhaps even their commitment to work itself;
the returning professional may not know where, or how, to begin their reentry to
paid employment.
A
successful reentry strategy includes fully understanding the range of skills and
knowledge one brings to the work arena and the ability to articulate and
demonstrate these skills to a receptive employer. Join us and hear professionals
talk about how they were able to reenter the workforce after a career break —
whether they returned to practice or launched themselves into an entirely new
field. Panelists include attorneys who have returned to practice or found
alternative careers. Topics include:
-
“Step-in and step-out”
tips: Practical insight and advice about the steps necessary to reenter
successfully, including how to stay professionally connected, involved and
relevant while on a career break;
-
How to jumpstart your
career if you have been professionally disengaged;
-
Overview of the many
available resources for those seeking to reenter, from employer-based relaunch
initiatives to private company programs to seminars and conferences offered
through leadership institutes at area colleges and universities;
-
Effective
networking strategies; and
-
Opportunity to
discuss reentry issues with attorneys in midst of similar
transition.
