Law Day 2010

The American Bar Association has not yet announced a theme for Law Day 2010. In the interim, this page contains information on Law Day 2009.

Friday, May 1, 2009

The first day of May of each year is designated as Law Day, U.S.A. It is set aside as a special day of celebration by the American people in appreciation of their liberties and the reaffirmation of their loyalty to the United States of America; of their rededication to the ideals of equality and justice under law in their relations with each other as well as with other nations; and for the cultivation of that respect for law that is so vital to the democratic way of life.

According to the American Bar Association:

"2009 marks the bicentennial of the birth of Abraham Lincoln, regarded by many as our nation's greatest and most eloquent president. Lincoln, who devoted much of his adult life to the practice of law, was the quintessential American lawyer-president. His background in the law informed both his actions and his oratory.

For Law Day 2009, we encourage efforts nationwide to commemorate Lincoln by exploring this rich and resonant theme - A Legacy of Liberty."
