Lawyers in Transition Committee
Assisting attorneys with career transitions and professional development
The Lawyers in Transition Committee of the
Massachusetts Bar Association aims to assist attorneys who are in
the midst of career transitions, particularly attorneys who are new
to practice, seeking to re-enter the paid workforce, to switch
practice areas, or to pursue alternative careers altogether. The
Committee provides attorneys with practical information, resources,
networking opportunities and support necessary to help them
identify creative, practical ways to pursue their professional
goals.
Redirecting one's professional course can be
daunting and difficult in a profession as conservative and
traditional as the law, let alone during turbulent economic
times. Stepping off the beaten career path for whatever
reason - an unexpected lay-off or illness; to raise a family; to
try something new - poses personal and professional
challenges. Handled well, however, these transitions may help
to uncover a path better suited to one's intellectual interests and
personal temperament.
