MBA to offer free training for attorneys seeking to aid Massachusetts veterans
On Thursday, Sept. 27, the MBA is hosting a free training session to aid volunteer attorneys in offering pro bono services to veterans throughout the state. The program will give participating attorneys training on how to provide pro bono representation for veterans appealing denials of federal benefits in the US Court of Appeals.
The Community Services Department also urges participating attorneys to assist in a Dial-a-Lawyer specifically designed for veterans in October and deliver speaking presentations with local veteran service officers throughout the state.
Serving our Veterans in the Law – Pro Bono Training for Attorneys will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a free lunch provided by the MBA. Speakers will include Ronald B. Abrams, joint executive director, and Louis J. George, staff attorney, both of the National Veterans Legal Services Program in Washington, D.C. They will be explaining the legal spectrum of issues that face veterans and will lead open discussions about how to navigate federal and state appeals to benefit reductions and eliminations.
The training session will be held at the MBA, 20 West St, Boston. Space is limited. If you are interested in attending, call Member Services at (617) 338-0530 or toll-free at (877) 676-6500.
