Sharon High School wins Mock Trial State Championship
Congratulations to the Sharon High School Mock Trial team, which defeated Salem High School in today's Mock Trial State Championship. The competition was held earlier this morning in Faneuil Hall's Great Hall.
This year, the committee decided to model the judging for Mock Trial finals after the national competition, utilizing a three-member panel, which features a presiding judge who conducts and scores the trial and two additional scoring judges. The 2007 Mock Trial Championship was judged by the Hon. Barbara Dortch-Okara, the Hon. Mary McCallum and the Hon. Howard Whitehead. All three judges scored the trial in accordance with standard Mock Trial scoring procedures. Each judge's scorecard constituted one ballot. Sharon High School was listed as a winner on the majority of ballots, and thus, was named the state champion.

The 2007 Mock Trial Program is proudly sponsored once again this year by the law firm of Brown, Rudnick, Berlack & Israels LLP. Thanks to the generosity of this firm and hundreds of volunteer attorneys, judges and teachers throughout Massachusetts, high school students statewide have an opportunity to learn about the fundamentals of the American judicial system and how it can impact their lives in ways they might not otherwise imagine.
