Attleboro District Court and Juvenile Court resumes operation

The Attleboro District Court and Juvenile Court resumed operations on Monday, July 27
at its North Main Street location after a May 18 fire closed the court for over two months. A fire restoration company has cleaned and sealed off the damaged areas of the courthouse on the top floor and an assessment of the electrical service has determined that the building is safe for occupancy by the staff and the public. The civil clerk's office, which was destroyed in the fire, will be relocated to the jury assembly room on the basement level of the court.

All Attleboro District Court business will now be conducted in the Attleboro District Court with the exception of jury trials. Civil jury trials will be transferred to the Wrentham District Court for trial and criminal jury trials will be transferred to the Taunton District Court. Jurors who were scheduled to report to the Attleboro courthouse should not report for juror service.

Anyone with any questions may call the Attleboro District Court at (508) 222-5900 for further instructions.

The Wrentham District Court is located at 60 East St. in Wrentham. The telephone number is (508) 384-3106.

The Taunton District Court is located at 120 Cohannet St. in Taunton. The telephone number is (508) 977-6156.

The Taunton Juvenile Court is located in the same building as the Taunton Superior Court, 9 Court St. in Taunton. The telephone number is (508) 824-0609.

Boyle honored with AAJ’s Champion of Justice Award

Massachusetts Bar Association Past President Leo V. Boyle was honored with the Leonard M. Ring Champion of Justice Award from the American Association for Justice at its national convention at the end of July. Boyle received one of eight awards presented by AAJ.

Boyle, a past president of AAJ, was recognized for his contributions to civil justice. A founder of Meehan, Boyle, Black & Bogdanow PC, Boyle has practiced exclusively as a plaintiff's trial lawyer and has developed a national reputation as one of the most successful attorneys in the state of Massachusetts. He has been named to the Massachusetts Super Trial Lawyers list for five consecutive years. Boyle also served as president of Trial Lawyers Care, which provided free legal help for the victims of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

As the world's largest trial bar, AAJ works to make sure people have a fair chance to receive justice through the legal system when they are injured by the negligence or misconduct of others, even when it means taking on the most powerful corporations.

Law Practice Management Tip of the Week

Web Address: Optimizing Your Online Presence

If you're tired of paying beaucoup bucks to have someone else create and maintain your Web site, then reconsider what your online presence means. Rather than gunning for the top-shelf Web site, featuring all the information, pages (and expense) you can cram, try an alternate course. Instead of optimizing your Web site, optimize your online presence across Web sites. The purpose of your firm Web site is two-fold: to give you an online profile and to get you noticed through the search engine rankings. Yet, both these objects can be achieved through the use of a well-constructed, simple placeholder website that acts as your online business card, coupled with the use of social media marketing.

Blogs and blogging, Twitter and tweeting, the use of LinkedIn and Facebook for the creation of alternate, additional firm pages, video posting with YouTube, claiming your profile on Avvo . . . the use of all of these available resources (and other available resources) can create for you an online presence across several platforms, increase your visibility on search services, help (you) to target your marketing, give you access to a thriving online community of attorneys and give you some incentive to update and add content consistently, to keep yourself top of mind.

The best part: all of these Web resources referenced above are free to use.
