How to review an employee handbook

Wednesday, Aug. 5, noon-1:15 p.m.
MBA, 20 West St., Boston

Your client just mailed you a 50-page employee manual with a Post-it note that says, "please review this and tell us if there's anything that we have to worry about from a legal perspective."

Where do you begin? What policies must the employer have? What policies should they have? What common mistakes do employers make when drafting policies (that could come back to bite them if their handbook falls into the hands of a savvy employee-side advocate)? And if you are that savvy advocate, what nuggets should you be hunting for in the fine print?

Join L&E Section Co-Chair Catherine Reuben of Hirsch, Roberts Weinstein LLP in Boston for an accessible, step-by-step approach to reviewing an employee handbook. This is a free, informal, summer training sponsored by the Labor & Employment Section and Young Lawyers Division.

The program is targeted to junior lawyers, but those of you with more experience are most welcome to come and share your own bits of handbook wisdom. Bring your own lunch.
