SJC Chief Justice Margaret H. Marshall to receive the prestigious Edward F. Hennessey Award next Wednesday

Fourth Annual Bench-Bar Symposium to also feature Marshall's Annual Address to the Legal Community

The Massachusetts Bar Association will honor Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Margaret H. Marshall at its fourth annual Bench-Bar Symposium at the John Adams Courthouse on Oct. 21. Only the fifth recipient of the prestigious Chief Justice Edward F. Hennessey Award, Marshall will be recognized for her many accomplishments over the past decade as leader of the state's judicial branch.

"The Massachusetts courts have benefited greatly from Chief Justice Marshall's trailblazing vision," MBA President Valerie A. Yarashus said. "Her leadership has further ensured access to justice to the citizens of Massachusetts and has elevated the state's court system as a national model for innovative court practices."

Marshall's acceptance of the Hennessey award will follow her Annual Address to the Legal Community, during which she discuss the Trial Court budget crisis and its impact on the public. The 4:30 p.m. event will take place at the John Adams Courthouse in Boston.

MBA President Valerie A. Yarashus and Utah Supreme Court Chief Justice Christine Durham, president of the Conference of Chief Justices of the United States, will also provide remarks. A reception will follow at the same venue. As a reminder, please bring your bar card for easier entry.
