Chief Justices issue statement on FY12 budget and its impact on court operations
In the wake of the FY12 budget enactment and its $24.2 million
cut to the court system, Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice
Roderick L. Ireland and Chief Justice for Administration and
Management Robert A. Mulligan issued a joint statement on Tuesday
articulating the implications of such a cut.
Chief justices Ireland and Mulligan have notified State House
leaders of plans to relocate and consolidate court operations and
have asked Gov. Deval Patrick to consider a moratorium on judicial
and clerk magistrate appointments.
Trial Court funding is down $96 million from FY09 and they have
lost 1,115 employees since a hiring freeze was put into place.
