House of Representatives passes a supplemental budget appropriation
The Massachusetts Bar Association continues to vigorously lobby
for additional funds for our beleaguered court system. On
Wednesday, Oct. 5 the House of Representatives passed a $154
million supplemental budget appropriation, which included $12
million in direct funds and $8 million in retained revenue from fee
collections for the Trial Court. Click here to see the budget line
item.
Additionally, the supplemental budget contained an outside
section mandating that any proposed court closures or reductions in
sessions proposed by the Chief Justice for Administration and
Management must be approved by the soon to be appointed court
administrator and then submitted to the Legislature 90 days before
they take effect. Click here to see the outside
section.
The supplemental budget now heads to the Senate for
action.
