Hoopes tapped to lead highly visible MBA Committee
MBA President Richard P. Campbell has appointed Thomas M. Hoopes
of LibbyHoopes PC in Boston as the new chair of the Fair and
Impartial Courts Committee for the 2011-12 association year.
The Fair and Impartial Courts Committee is responsible for
coordinated efforts with the judiciary to educate the press and
public about the importance of the rule of law and the integral
role of judges in the administration of justice.
Hoopes inherits a decade's worth of momentum established by
previous committee chair Edward P. Ryan Jr. of Fitchburg, an MBA
past president.
"Many times our judges find themselves harshly and unfairly
attacked for decisions they render that are misunderstood, but
nevertheless, appropriately made in accordance with the law. The
committee does a great service by providing its expertise to the
media and public in explaining these matters that come before the
bench," said Campbell.
A former prosecutor, Hoopes created and supervised the White
Collar and High Publicity Crime Units in Middlesex County. He is a
former chair of the MBA's Criminal Justice Section and is well
versed in managing media relations and internal business
communications. Hoopes serves as the legal analyst for WHDH-TV
(Channel 7) in Boston and has lectured extensively on press and
crisis management in legal affairs.
A significant portion of his practice at LibbyHoopes PC relates to
internal corporate investigation cases, in which he represents
companies and individual clients in complex criminal and civil
matters. As a trial attorney, he has successfully tried major cases
in state and federal court.
He is a graduate of Boston University School of Law.
