New MBA bylaws approved

Following a vote of the MBA membership, new bylaws have been approved. They took effect on June 26. Among the changes are:
Diversity: Article II was amended to add “diversity and unity in the legal profession” to the list of the organization’s purposes. Article III also was amended, to add both sexual orientation and disability to its diversity statement.
Affiliated bars: To enable some of the newer and sometimes smaller bar associations representing particular ethnic groups to more easily become affiliated bars of the MBA, the bylaws were amended to remove the numerical test and instead make the process of evaluating an application for affiliation entirely the responsibility of the Executive Management Board.
Life membership: Life membership in the MBA is now open to any member in good standing who has been admitted to the bar for 50 years.
