The American Cancer Society is calling on lawyers to participate in its Law Firm Challenge, part of the society's fall fundraiser, "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer." The event, which takes place October 6, is a 5.7-mile walk along the Charles River to raise money to fight breast cancer through the American Cancer Society's research, education, programs and services.
For the past five years, several local law firms have participated to raise money to help fight breast cancer. But organizers are hoping to expand the number of firms involved.
"All it takes is an interest in the cause and the willingness for people to come together and walk the route at the event," says Selena K. Hanson, regional executive for development at American Cancer Society.
Participating firms have a team of walkers consisting of two or more people. Members receive a newsletter about the event, are given "Bank Days" to turn in funds that are tracked for the Law Firm Challenge Reception post event, and have a special meeting place at the event to gather with other team members. Teams also may order a unique Law Firm Challenge event T-shirt.
Those interested in participating in the Law Firm Challenge are invited to attend a kick-off breakfast for the entire event on August 14 at the new Loews Theater on the Boston Common. At the kick-off, which begins at 7:30 a.m., attendees will hear from survivors, a researcher, and leave with a goody bag of materials that they can use to help their team build.
