Ann W. Lake
Pioneer for female lawyers
Ann W. Lake, the first female chair elected to the MBA's Family Law Section Council, died Feb. 28 at her winter home in Wellington, Fla. She was 83.
In addition to her service with the MBA, Mrs. Lake received the prestigious Sole Practitioner of the Year Award by the American Bar Association in 1995.
During her 50 years of practice, Mrs. Lake - a sole practitioner specializing in probate law and domestic relations - was a strong advocate of the family. Colleagues described her as a pragmatist who always kept an observant eye on the people most effected by divorce: children.
Mrs. Lake also served as the first female council member of the ABA's General Practice Section and first female chair of the ABA General Practice Section Family Law Committee.
Arrangements were made by Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home in Norwood.
