Learn latest in nonprofit trends

If your practice deals with tax-related issues or you advise nonprofit organizations on legal matters, an upcoming program offered by the MBA will help you guide your organization.

The informative program, "Current Hot Topics in the World of Tax-Exempt Organizations," will be held Tuesday, June 8, from 5-7 p.m., at the MBA, 20 West St., Boston.

Faculty members Lois G. Lerner, director of Exempt Organizations Rulings and Agreements for the IRS in Washington, D.C., and Jamie Katz, assistant attorney general and chief of the Public Charities Division, Boston, will discuss significant current trends in the world of tax-exempt organizations.

For instance, learn about financial integrity legislation proposed by the Attorney General's Office and priorities of the Attorney General's Public Charities Division and the tax-exempt division of the IRS.

Other features of the program include the use of private foundations for personal purposes; concerns regarding related party transactions, compensation and interest conflicts; notable recent cases; credit counseling organizations; 527 political organizations; and abusive tax avoidance schemes involving exempt organizations.
