In preparation for the 20th Annual Statewide Mock Trial Program, the MBA invites you to volunteer as an attorney coach or judge.
Open to all public and private high school students in Massachusetts, the Mock Trial Program is a rich curriculum that promotes the development of fundamental knowledge, sound judgment and critical thinking skills. In Mock Trial, students are placed in a simulated courtroom situation where they assume the roles of lawyers and witnesses in a hypothetical case.
Members are needed to coach a team in their community or to serve as judges in the trials that take place throughout the state. To volunteer, call (617) 338-0570 or e-mail [e-mail mocktrial].
On Wednesday, Feb. 2, the MBA will sponsor young people to "shadow" attorneys in order to gain an appreciation for legal work in general and the area shadowed in particular. The goal of Job Shadow is to provide a favorable experience to the students, to foster an appreciation for the importance of living in a society of laws, to create a positive impression of lawyers and to introduce students to a variety of careers available at a law firm.
Attorneys from all areas of law are welcome to participate. During the Job Shadow Day, attorneys are encouraged to visit their local courthouse and introduce the young people to other legal professionals in and outside of their offices.
To volunteer, call (617) 338-0695 or e-mail [e-mail communityservices].
Dial-A-Lawyer needs volunteers
The MBA is seeking attorney volunteers to staff the phones for our monthly Dial-a-Lawyer program on the first Wednesday of every month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Questions pertain to a wide variety of legal topics. To volunteer, call (617) 338-0556 or e-mail [e-mail lrs].
Mentor Program - A phone call away
The MBA Mentor Program is looking for attorneys who are willing to volunteer a small amount of time to assist fellow attorneys. It is a perfect opportunity to share your knowledge of specific areas of law with new practitioners.
The Mentor Program is an excellent learning tool and resource for mentees, as well as a great way to network with other attorneys. To participate in the mentoring telephone program, you must have practiced law for more than seven years and have agreed to voluntarily advise other MBA members on areas of law within your realm of experience. The topics chosen by MBA mentors constitute 50 percent or more of their practice.
To volunteer, call (617) 338-0691 or e-mail [e-mail mentor].
