Land Court urges attorneys to check addresses pending MassCourts implementation

To prepare for the implementation of MassCourts in the Land Court, Chief Justice Karyn F. Scheier and the Hon. James F. McHugh, special advisor to the Chief Justice for Administration and Management and the Trial Court Information Systems MassCourts Project Office, have announced a new policy regarding the designation of attorney addresses in Land Court cases.

As of Dec. 30, the Land Court was to begin receiving regular attorney address updates from the Board of Bar Overseers (BBO). From that time forward, with the exception of inactive attorneys, every attorney's then-current BBO address will replace any other address on file in any Land Court case. The initial address update will eliminate all non-BBO attorney addresses in the Land Court's current database. Thereafter, each attorney's name and current BBO address will comprise the attorney's identity in MassCourts, as the system is implemented throughout the commonwealth.

After the BBO update, the Land Court will mail all case-related notices and communications to the attorney's current BBO address only. All attorneys should check and, if necessary, update their current address with the BBO before Dec. 30. Attorneys may electronically update their addresses at the BBO Web site, http://massbbo.org/address.php, or contact the office of the Board of Bar Overseers at 99 High Street, Boston, MA 02110.

In addition, the court also requests that attorneys review the status of their appearances in all Land Court contested and uncontested cases. If an attorney is no longer involved in a case, that fact should be reflected on the docket, assuming his or her withdrawal was proper.
