Meira Russ will discuss the Juvenile Court Mental Health Advocacy Project (J-MHAP) which addresses pervasive barriers to mental health care access faced by juvenile court-involved youth. By the beginning of 2015, the J-MHAP will implement a pilot mental health advocacy program integrated into two juvenile courts in Essex and Middlesex Counties. The pilot program will be capable of replication across the Massachusetts juvenile court system, and potentially in courts across the nation. We are partnering with the Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Juvenile Court and other agencies and organizations intimately familiar with the juvenile court system. Atty. Russ will discuss HLA’s work as Mental Health GALs over the last several years and will provide an update on the pilot project development.
