In April 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Massachusetts enacted an eviction moratorium that ended on Oct. 17. During the moratorium, notices to quit could not be sent, nor summary process nonpayment complaints filed with the Housing Court. When the moratorium ended, a flood of new cases was filed. This is a two-part series designed to prepare attorneys for this unprecedented situation and to effectively represent their clients.

This program will show both landlord and tenant attorneys how to effectively litigate a nonpayment summary process trial. Our panel of experts will outline tips and best practices for litigating in Housing Court. This course will provide a comprehensive overview of key components, including:

  • Preparation for trial
  • Introduction of evidence
  • Examining and cross-examining witnesses
  • Tips for when the opposing party is pro se
  • Effective arguments and defenses

This session was hosted using Zoom.
