In 2020, the Massachusetts Appleseed Center for Law and Justice released a collaborative, data-driven report, Protecting Girls of Color from the School-to-Prison Pipeline. This study found that Black girls in Massachusetts are almost four times more likely to experience exclusionary discipline compared to their white counterparts in the school system. Join Melanie Rush and Erica Cushna for an overview and discussion of this recent school discipline study on girls of color.

The Appleseed Center is now conducting a community-led and narrative-driven follow-up to this report to examine disparities among all young women of color in relation to school discipline. We want to hear from girls of color about their experience with discipline in Massachusetts schools, and recruitment to participate in this community-led study is OPEN. The center hopes to gather additional stories behind the statistics, provide explanations for these disparities, and amplify changes to current discipline practices.

This program is approved for 1 CAFL/YAD credit.

This webinar was hosted using Zoom.
