Please join the Massachusetts Bar Association Bar Association Clemency Task
Force members and panelists from the Governor's Office to discuss the new clemency
guidelines.
Gov. Maura Healey made history by issuing new clemency
guidelines that will modernize and revitalize the clemency process by injecting
a new focus on racial equality, correction of systemic injustices, and fairness
— creating possibilities for hope and transformation for individuals who have
been imprisoned for decades.
This program will cover:
- What clemency is and celebrate the importance of the
new guidelines
- What changed and stayed the same in the clemency
guidelines
- Basic training elements on the new guidelines,
including procedural and substantive requirements when representing a clemency
client
- Commutations for clients whose offenses occurred at a
young age, elders in prison, LGBT+ people, individuals who have suffered
violence and trauma, and other special populations
- Pardons opportunities for pro bono representation
This event is co-sponsored by the Women's Bar
Association.
