The Senate Ways and Means Committee released its fiscal year
2015 budget recommendations yesterday. Included in the $36.25
billion proposal was $13 million for Massachusetts Legal Assistance
Corporation (MLAC) which is level funding of last year's
appropriation amount.
Sen. William Brownsberger (D-Belmont) is filing an amendment
raising MLAC's line item to $17 million. Please contact your local
senator and ask them to support the legal services amendment filed
by Sen. Brownsberger and to express their support for the amendment
to both Senate President Therese Murray and Senate Ways and Means
Chairman Stephen Brewer.
The Senate is scheduled to take up the budget next week. As you
may recall, the House budget included $15 million for MLAC.
Following passage of the Senate budget, both branches will appoint
a conference committee to hash out a compromise budget.
