The Probate and Family Court has announced that a new “Assented to Motion for All Parties to Appear Remotely” form is now available to request an in-person hearing to be changed to a remote hearing. The form must be filed with the court and will be reviewed administratively.

USDC announces passing of former U.S. Magistrate Judge Lawrence P. Cohen
The judges of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts have announced with deep sadness the passing of former U.S. Magistrate Judge Lawrence (“Larry”) Cohen on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021. Cohen was 82 years old.
Cohen was appointed a U.S. magistrate Judge in 1976 – a position he held for 29 years until his retirement in 2005. Prior to being appointed to the bench, he served as a trial attorney with the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice from 1966 to 1969. He then served as an assistant attorney general for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 1969 through November 1970, when he became an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Massachusetts. He acted as deputy chief of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office prior to joining the bench.
Long before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the federal judiciary to shift its modus operandi, Cohen led the way for technological advancement and innovation at the court. He served on the Judicial Conference’s Information Technology Committee and felt passionately about making technology user-friendly and available to all.
Cohen is survived by his wife Carol and was the loving father of four children and a grandfather of 10.
