Brown Mock Trial seeks judges for February program

newsfromcourtsMembers of the legal profession are invited to judge the American Mock Trial Association’s (AMTA) Providence Regional Tournament, which will be hosted by Brown University Mock Trial at Brown University on Feb. 15 and 16. This year, Brown Mock Trial will be hosting 26 nationally competitive mock trial programs — including every intercollegiate mock trial program in Rhode Island — who will compete for the chance to advance to the National Championship Tournament in Memphis, Tennessee, in April.

The tournament will consist of four rounds of mock trial competition. Each round lasts between two and three hours. During that time, judges will watch aspiring attorneys present their skills as advocates. Judges will rule on objection arguments and assess the credibility of witnesses portraying quirky characters, forensic experts and everything in between.

No prior mock trial experience is necessary. Volunteers may judge any or all of the following rounds, for which breakfast and lunch will be provided:

  • Round 1 (Saturday, Feb. 15): 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Round 2 (Saturday, Feb. 15): 2-5:30 p.m.
  • Round 3 (Sunday, Feb. 16): 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Round 4 (Sunday, Feb. 16): 2-5:30 p.m.

After each round, judges will have the opportunity to provide feedback and advice to the competitors.
