The following is a statement from the National High School Mock Trial Championship Board of Directors:

After extended consultation with the Michigan Center for Civic Education, health officials, stakeholders, and state coordinators, and after observing the progress of the COVID-19 virus, the NHSMTC Board cannot assure that the competition could be held in-person safely in May, consistent with our students' and schools' needs.  Accordingly, the 2022 National High School Mock Trial Championship in Kalamazoo, Michigan will be held virtually.

The NHSMTC Board thanks the MCCE, the Kalamazoo Host Committee, and the exceptional members of the Kalamzaoo community for their tremendous, continued support of mock trial and civics education. This was not the outcome anyone desired, but this choice was necessary to protect our community, and the leadership the MCCE and Kalamazoo community have shown during this difficult decision-making process is a model of the civic virtue for which this organization stands.

The NHSMTC Board will be working with our hosts in Little Rock, Arkansas to establish protocols that we hope will allow us to return to in-person national competition in 2023. For more, visit https://www.nationalmocktrial.org/

About Us

First organized in 1985, the Mock Trial Program's tournament places high school students in a simulated courtroom to assume the roles of lawyers and witnesses in a hypothetical case. Thousands of students at more than 130 schools across the commonwealth are participating. More than 100 lawyers and judges across the state will serve as volunteer coaches and judges.
