The Massachusetts Bar Foundation proudly announces that two of
its most dedicated volunteers will be honored with this year's
President's Awards at the upcoming MBF Grantee Receptions. Award
recipients are:
- H Theodore Cohen, Cambridge
- Robert C. Ware, Williamstown
Ted Cohen, an MBF Oliver Wendell Holmes Fellow, has been one of
MBF's most dedicated and generous supporters since he first joined
the Society of Fellows in 1998. Cohen has participated annually in
the MBF grant review process, serving on both regional and
statewide subject grant advisory committees. His commitment to
increasing access to justice, particularly for low-income
individuals and families in need, is clearly evident in his
thoughtful and insightful evaluations of various funding requests
to the foundation. Professionally, Cohen served as town counsel for
Reading from 1972 through 2001, then practiced municipal law, real
estate and land use at Keegan Werlin until his retirement.
Currently, he serves as the chair of the Cambridge City Planning
Board. Cohen will receive his award at the Eastern Mass. Grantee
Reception in Boston on Sept. 26.
Bob Ware, an MBF Life Fellow who first joined the Society of
Fellows in 1997, will be honored for his longstanding, generous
support of the foundation. A perennial presence on the Western
Mass. regional grant advisory committee, Ware's expertise and local
knowledge helps the MBF make strong grants in many underserved
areas of the western part of the state. His input has been
instrumental in ensuring our grant making activities are truly
statewide. Ware is a solo practitioner who specializes in estate
planning and probate matters in Williamstown. He is a member of the
National Academy of Elder Attorneys, and is a founding member and
former president of the Williamstown Film Festival. Ware will
receive his award at the Central & Western Mass. Grantee
Reception, in Amherst, on Oct. 3
The MBF hosts grantee receptions annually to show its
