The second installment of the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Fall Festival & Run for Justice went off without a hitch on Sunday, Sept. 22, as MBA members and their families enjoyed live music, free food and games under clear skies and seasonable fall temperatures. The event provided an excellent opportunity for some off-the-clock fun while also supporting innocence project and civil legal aid work in Massachusetts.

This year’s Fall Festival & Run for Justice raised more than $9K for the New England Innocence Project and the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, whose grants help fund civil aid programs in Massachusetts. Thank you to Gold Sponsors Morrison Mahoney LLP and Turco Legal PC; Silver Sponsors Barnes & Thornburg LLP and Santoro & Gray LLC; and Bronze Sponsors Arrowood LLP, Expert Institute and the Law Offices of Samuel A. Segal for making this possible.

Unlike last year, when stormy weather canceled the scheduled music program, this year’s Fall Festival showcased a live music lineup of legal-community-connected artists, who provided many of the afternoon’s highlights. The performers included:

  • Attorney David Shapiro, on piano, accompanying his daughter, Rachel Shapiro, on vocals;
  • New England Law | Boston student Samari Winklaar, on vocals, accompanied by Juan Tori, on guitar and vocals;
  • Boston College Law School student Maria Beaulieu, on guitar and vocals; and
  • Karate Show, a rock band featuring MBA Civil Litigation Section Chair Michael Molloy on drums.
In addition to the live music, this year’s Fall Festival included several activities for children, including a scavenger hunt, face painting and a Kids’ Fun Run. And the Naco Taco food truck supplied free delicious tacos, sides and sodas for all attendees.

Over 150 people swung by this year’s Fall Festival throughout the afternoon, and dozens of runners and walkers also took part in the Run for Justice, a 2.62-mile “mini-thon” loop around the Charles River. Congratulations to Run for Justice winner, MBA Public Law Section Council member Michael Moloney, and MBA Vice President Sam Segal, who took second place, replicating his finish from last year’s inaugural run.

Thank you to everyone who attended and/or supported this year’s Fall Festival and Run for Justice! Special thanks to MBA Past President Damian Turco and Melina Muñoz Turco for coordinating and putting this event together!
