Dial-A-Lawyer Program - Oct. 20
For attorney members located in the four western counties, the MBA has scheduled the next semi-annual Dial-A-Lawyer program for Western Massachusetts for Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at The program is co-sponsored by The Republican and the Western New England College School of Law in Springfield.
During the program, MBA members from Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden counties will staff a telephone bank to answer legal questions from the public. For several days prior to the Oct. 20 event, local TV and radio stations and newspapers will publicize the event to encourage audiences to call in with legal questions.
The program is co-sponsored by The Republican and Western New England College School of Law.
Mock Trial
In preparation for the 20th Annual Statewide Mock Trial Program, the MBA invites you to volunteer as an attorney coach or judge. Open to all public and private high school students in Massachusetts, the Mock Trial Program is a rich curriculum that promotes the development of fundamental knowledge, sound judgment and critical thinking skills.
Students are placed in a simulated courtroom situation where they assume the roles of lawyers and witnesses in a hypothetical case. To volunteer as a judge or an attorney coach, call (617) 338-0570 or e-mail.
Job Shadow
On Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, the MBA will sponsor young people from various communities in the commonwealth to "shadow" attorneys in order to gain an appreciation for legal work in general and the area shadowed in particular. The goal of Job Shadow is to provide a favorable experience to the students, to foster an appreciation for the importance of living in a society of laws, to create a positive impression of lawyers and to introduce students to a variety of careers available at a law firm.
Attorneys from all areas of law are asked to participate. During Job Shadow Day, attorneys are encouraged to visit their local courthouse and introduce the young people to other legal professionals in and outside of their offices.

The MBA is seeking attorney volunteers to staff the phones for our monthly Dial-a-Lawyer program on the first Wednesday of every month from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Questions pertain to a wide variety of legal topics. To volunteer, call (617) 338-0556.
