Speaker of the House Salvatore F. DiMasi calls on lawyers to get involved in the political process as he accepts the Legislator of the Year Award during Annual Dinner 2005. |
As he accepted his Legislator of the Year Award from the Massachusetts Bar Association during Annual Dinner 2005, Speaker of the House Salvatore F. DiMasi reminded attorneys of their historic role in politics.
DiMasi, who is a practicing attorney, encouraged lawyers to get involved in the legislature.
"Lawyers need to continue to run for office," DiMasi said. "It's a great profession to be in. You can make a difference."
Before presenting DiMasi with the award, MBA President-Elect Warren F. Fitzgerald praised the 25-year legislator for his long-standing commitment to the legislature and to the legal profession.
"Sal is both a lawyer's lawyer and a legislator's legislator," Fitzgerald said. "… Since he was first elected to the House, he has demonstrated an unfailing commitment to the needs of the judiciary … and at all times insisted on fairness and justice."
