MBA hires Oliver as director of media and communications

Issue December 2005

After an extensive search, the Massachusetts Bar Association has hired Tricia M. Oliver as its new director of media and communications.

Oliver joined the staff Nov. 14. "I'm thrilled to join an already strong and talented team."

Before being named communications director, Oliver was internal communications manager in the public affairs department at Brigham and Women's Hospital. For the last four years, Oliver led internal communications hospital-wide at the Harvard-affiliated academic medical center, which has a workforce of more than 11,000 employees.

She edited internal publications and ran the hospital's Intranet site, overseeing two staff writers, coordinating production with an in-house graphic designer and running editorial meetings with the hospital's chief nursing officer and chief medical officer. She also coordinated communication strategies with the hospital's senior leadership.

MBA President Warren Fitzgerald said Oliver's hiring would be essential in getting the organization's message across to its members and the public. Increasing the MBA's recognition has been one of his priorities this year.

"I am very pleased that Trish Oliver has joined the MBA as our new director of communications.ÊShe brings an extensive career history of sophisticated media relations and communications accomplishments coupled with an exciting energy," Fitzgerald said.

"We will now be much better able to tell our members and the public about theÊmany worthwhile initiatives and programs in which the MBA is involved, to present the MBA as the leader of the Massachusetts bar and to assist us in fulfilling our role in the judicial system," he added.

Oliver has spent much of her career in the health care field. She joined Brigham and Women's in late 1998 as a media relations officer, then was named media relations coordinator and publications coordinator before becoming internal communications manager in October 2001.

Oliver graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and a minor in business administration in 1995 from Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Penn.
