Massachusetts Bar Association President
Edward W. McIntyre ceremoniously passed the gavel to
President-Elect Valerie A. Yarashus following the House of
Delegates meeting at the MassMutual Center in Springfield on May
21. Yarashus will succeed to president on Sept. 1 for the 2009-10
association year.
"Valerie Yarashus has earned a
reputation for excellence in the law and is renowned for her
representation of clients," McIntyre said.
Yarashus, who is currently at
Meehan, Boyle, Black & Bogdanow, was the first female to make
partner at her former firm, Sugarman and Sugarman PC. She is a
graduate of George Washington University and Harvard Law
School.
McIntyre presented Yarashus with a
copy of "The Joy of Living" after calling her a true leader who is
a gifted listener with the ability to develop reciprocal
relationships.
"She is a wonderful human being and
an accomplished lawyer," McIntyre said. "She's a glowing example
for all of us in the legal community."
Yarashus thanked McIntyre for all of
his hard work during the past year. "We are so grateful to have had
you as a president," she said. "You are a kind, generous, wise
person."
Also at HOD, MBA General Counsel and Acting Executive Director
Martin W. Healy was congratulated on his 20 years of service to the
MBA with a speech from Access to Justice Section Chair James T. Van
Buren and several gifts.
