Mobster James "Whitey" Bulger was
sentenced to two life terms plus five years, and $19.5 million in
restitution on Nov. 14. Quoted in Massachusetts Lawyers
Weekly, Healy said "the sentence was not surprising, given the
avalanche of testimony and evidence presented against Bulger."
Bulger has appealed the decision and if he passes away while his
appeal is pending, his death frees him of any murder convictions,
according to a doctrine honored by state and federal courts for 110
years. Healy told the Boston Herald that Bulger's death
would be "a game-changer."

Judge Roberto Ronquillo Jr. was appointed chief justice of the
Boston Municipal Court for a five-year term on Nov. 15. The
Massachusetts Bar Association applauded Ronquillo's selection and
in a statement included in Boston Globe and Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly articles
announcing Ronquillo's appointment, Healy described Ronquillo as a
leader who will serve as "a unifying voice in the BMC."
