  • "Man accused of killing his stepdaughter in Acton had been awaiting trial on rape charges for close to three years," The Boston Globe (May 31). MBA Criminal Justice Section Council member D. Christopher Dearborn was quoted in an article about an Acton man who allegedly murdered his stepdaughter while awaiting trial for her rape and then fatally shot himself. A previous version of the article quoted MBA Executive Management Board member Peter Elikann, who discussed dangerousness hearings: "It shouldn't just be a blanket, automatic rule where every time someone is accused of a particularly serious crime you always lock them up. It's a tough balancing test every time, because when truly innocent people are locked up awaiting trial and then found innocent, you can't make that [time] up." Elikann also added, "[Y]ou do want to keep the public safe, and any prosecutor has to do that."
