The Massachusetts Bar Association, the Women's Bar Association of Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys have submitted an amicus brief calling on the Supreme Judicial Court to reinstate pay for suspended Newton District Court Judge Shelley Richmond Joseph. The news was covered in The Boston Globe and Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, as well as in an Associated Press story picked up by many other outlets, including U.S. News & World Report and WBUR.
Hon. Henry J. Boroff (ret.), a former United States bankruptcy judge for the District of Massachusetts, appeared on WWLP's Mass Appeal TV show to discuss the MBA's Western Mass. Dial-A-Lawyer program.

“New jury instructions take aim at implicit bias,” Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly (June 24). District Court Chief Justice Paul C. Dawley, Lowell District Court First Justice Stacey J. Fortes, Quincy District Court First Justice Mark S. Coven and Concord District Court Judge David E. Frank, all MBA members, discussed efforts to address implicit bias in the district court system, including through changes to pattern jury instructions.
“Canada stripped of immunity in workers’ comp suit,” Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly (June 24). MBA member Deborah G. Kohl was quoted about a 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decision, which found that a consulate employee injured in Boston can sue Canada as an uninsured employer under Massachusetts’ workers’ compensation statute.
