Taxation Law Section Open Meeting

Millionaire's Tax: Fairness or Folly? (A Debate)

Wednesday, March 21, 6:30-8 p.m.
Boston University-School of Law, 765 Commonwealth Ave., Boston

In November, Massachusetts voters will be asked to vote on whether to add a 4 percent surtax on an individual’s income over $1 million.

Jeff Jacoby, op-ed columnist for The Boston Globe, and Professor Peter Enrich of Northeastern University School of Law, will debate this timely issue.

Supporters of this initiative predict that the surtax will bring in close to $2 billion each year earmarked for spending “for quality public education and affordable public colleges and universities, and for the repair and maintenance of roads, bridges and public transportation." Those critical of the amendment argue that it is not in proper form and it would adversely affect the Massachusetts economy.
