The Massachusetts Bar Association's 2018 "Taking Control of Your Future: A Legal Checkup," a resource guide on a wide range of legal issues affecting the lives of seniors, is now available.
Since 1988, the MBA has celebrated Law Day by organizing free educational presentations about elder law throughout the commonwealth during the month of May and summer months. The Elder Law Education Program 2018 guide is made possible due to the participation, generous assistance and continued collaboration of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. This year, an advisory committee and contributing authors revised and expanded the guide's 2018 edition, which was distributed to all participating councils on aging, senior centers and attorney volunteers. Some of the topics included in the guide are:
- Important Questions as We Age
- Veterans Affairs Financial Benefits
- Medicaid (MassHealth)
- Reverse Mortgages
- Medicare: What You Need to Know
- Long-term Care Insurance
- Protecting the Home: Homestead, Medicaid (MassHealth) Issues and Tax Exemptions
