Volunteer to Help Immigrants Seek Naturalization Disability Waivers

Thursday, March 14, 2019

DisabilityWaiverImmigrants whose disabilities prevent them from speaking English or learning the required U.S. civics questions face unique challenges in obtaining U.S. citizenship. At the same time, pro bono attorneys are naturally suited to handle applications for disability-based waivers (N-648) and oversee citizenship interviews before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Join the Massachusetts Bar Association and Project Citizenship for a FREE, one-hour training program, on Monday, April 8, from 4:30-5:30 p.m., at the MBA in Boston, that will prepare participants to represent immigrants during these critical stages of the naturalization process.

In exchange for the free waiver training, participants will be asked to use their new skills to assist on one naturalization interview with a disabled client seeking a disability waiver for the English and civics testing requirement. Such interviews are generally one hour.

The program is ideal for legal professionals looking to make a real difference in the lives of eligible permanent residents.
