The House of Representatives wrapped up its FY22 budget debate early this morning. The House adopted an amended version of Amendment #1109 increasing rates for assigned private counsel. To see the proposed House rates, click here.
The Massachusetts Bar Association along with the Committee for Public Counsel Services and the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers worked together on the amendment that was co-sponsored by 39 representatives.
The MBA is grateful to House Speaker Ronald Mariano, House Ways and Means Chair Aaron Michlewitz, and House Judiciary Chair Michael Day, as well as the 39 co-sponsors of the amendment, for their support in the House.
The Senate is scheduled to take up its budget next month.
