"Harry Spence, trusted official who repaired flawed state institutions, dies at 74," The Boston Globe (Aug. 19). MBA Chief Legal Counsel and Chief Operating Officer Martin W. Healy commented on the passing of Harry Spence, whose long career in public service included a stint as the first court administrator of the Massachusetts Trial Court.
"Calls increase for reform of retail cannabis laws," Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly (Aug. 16). MBA member William H. Sheehan III was quoted in an article about renewed calls for the Legislature to reform the laws that govern the licensing process for marijuana establishments.
"‘Stunning’ bid to implead plaintiff’s new lawyers nixed," Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly (Aug. 16). MBA Complex Commercial Litigation Section Council member Jessica Gray Kelly and MBA members James S. Bolan and Edwin F. Landers Jr. discussed a law firm's failed attempt to file a third-party complaint alleging that a plaintiff's new attorneys compromised a case against the party responsible for the plaintiff's loss by first pursuing a legal malpractice action.
"Court-appointed conservator granted immunity," Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly (Aug. 16). MBA members Patricia Keane Martin and Donna A. Mizrahi commented on a Supreme Judicial Court decision that a conservator appointed by the Probate and Family Court could not be sued for activities integrally related to the judicial process.
