On Thursday, March 27, the Massachusetts Bar Association's Boston Tiered Community Mentoring (TCM) participants toured the Roxbury Division of Boston Municipal Court. During the morning, they observed several court matters in various courtrooms in the courthouse and met with court personnel from Probation, the District Attorney’s Office, Security and the Clerk’s Office. Additionally, Hon. Lisa Ann Grant paused her session, stood behind the bench, and spoke to the attendees about her path to becoming a judge and the importance of a community-centered atmosphere in a courthouse, as well as mentors and experiences that have shaped her career path.
On the same day, the Worcester TCM participants toured the Worcester County Jail and House of Corrections in West Boylston. The group met with several staff members from the S.T.O.P. (Substance Abuse Treatment Opportunity Program). This included staff members who represented the mental health, medical services, education and other related departments. After this discussion, the attendees were given a tour of the entire facility, including the jail and the House of Corrections. Presentations were given by medical and mental health staff in the Medical Intake Unit.
