Governor signs off on increased funds for legal aid, returns police reform bill to Legislature

Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020

Legislative ImageLast week, Gov. Charlie D. Baker signed a $45.9 billion budget for FY21, which included $29 million in funding for Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation. Work has already begun on the FY22 budget and a virtual Walk to the Hill for Civl Legal Aid is scheduled for Jan. 27, 2021.

Baker also returned the highly anticipated police reform bill to the Legislature. The governor is resistant to the Legislature’s proposed limits of facial recognition technology and the bill putting police training under a civilian-controlled commission. The bill now rests with the Legislature with the end of its session just weeks away. Click here to see the governor’s amendments.
