19th Annual In-House Counsel Conference to include panels on employment law, data privacy issues and more

The Massachusetts Bar Association is presenting its 19th Annual In-House Counsel Conference, which will focus this year on the theme of “Avoiding Traps for the Unwary.” This virtual conference, on Thursday, Jan. 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be held live on a remote platform to allow for interactive discussions and audience questions. The program will present information on current topics of significant concern to in-house and outside counsel.

This year’s conference will feature:

  • A keynote address from Rachael Rollins, U.S. attorney designate for the District of Massachusetts.
  • A panel discussion regarding the development and use of industry standards, opinions and guidance documents to determine legal obligations, which will include panelists Brian C. O’Donnell, assistant attorney general, Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General Fair Labor Division; and Stephen L. Grimes, managing partner and principal consultant, Strategic Healthcare Technology Associates LLC.
  • A panel discussion regarding current cybersecurity and data privacy issues, which will include panelists Michael J. Corby, PMP, CISSP, CCP, CBCP, M. Corby & Associates Inc.; Stephanie Helm, director of the MassCyberCenter; and Jenny Hedderman, Esq., state risk counsel, Comptroller of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This panel will discuss ransomware (to pay or not to pay), implementation of a cybersecurity safety net and other topics of current interest to in-house counsel. 
  • A panel discussion regarding current employment law issues, which will be moderated by Robert Kilroy of Mirick, O’Connell, DeMallie & Lougee LLP. Topics will include issues relating to vaccine mandates and other pandemic-related employment issues.
  • A lightning round presentation by David A. Parke regarding the new federal Corporate Transparency Act.
This webinar will be hosted using Zoom. Registration is required by 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26, to participate in this program.
